Centennial, CO May 15, 2012 – The award-winning Sand Creek Massacre documentary film is going to be part of the Chief Niwot – Legend and Legacy Exhibit at the Boulder History Museum, 1206 Euclid Avenue, Boulder, Colorado, from May 25, 2012 to November 25, 2012. The film, a short rendition, to accommodate the exhibit, depicts the Cheyenne and Arapaho people sharing their oral histories about the Sand Creek Massacre.

Award-winning writer/filmmaker, Donald L. Vasicek, writer, producer and director of the film, says that including the film in the exhibit amplifies the message meant for the film. “When the film was cataloged into Smithsonian Institute Libraries, I realized that it had a life of its own totally separate from me. With the Boulder History Museum exhibit, my goal from the inception of this film was to inform, to educate and to create awareness for America’s indigenous people, and it is once again being realized. The film must continue this journey for the people of Native America.”

Vasicek said this is a red flag for Americans. Juxtaposing urination on dead bodies to the Sand Creek Massacre shows that America might want to take stock of their values and morals. While urinating on dead bodies is an isolated incident committed by arrogant U. S. marines that show disrespect, which was fear-based, the Sand Creek Massacre was a military attack on people they felt were a threat to them, which was fear-based, both acts were based on ignorance.

Americans need to come together. This means that all cultures, races, religions, etc. must join together to restore America to a position of respect and knock off the bully and thug image that was exacerbated during the Bush Administration.

The following came unexpectedly to me one day. It was from Harry Strunk:

“I’m on a personal journey in my writing and am channeling Chief Niwot to bring Native American wisdom to our problems of today. It will be similar to “Conversations with God” (by Neal Donald Walsch) in a question/answer format entitled ”The Left Hand Journey to Wisdom: A walk with Chief Niwot.” (Niwot means left hand in Arapaho). Whether this materializes in a physical walk from Sand Creek to Gold Lake or merely a metaphysical walk – or combination of the two – has yet to be determined.

The Sand Creek massacre seems to be playing an important role in this project since it represents loss and separation…we all have our own personal Sand Creeks. It also represents the healing that we all face and the change in life we can’t control.

The Great Spirit of the Southern Arapaho is the same for every man. It is telling us all and using these tragedies as a way to touch our hearts. The sadness must overcome the anger to stir the deep love we have for each other. Fear and hatred has no place in this process.

Move ahead with your project as the funds will come from the love and hearts of many.
